Government of Canada Continues to Support Canadian Cleantech in budget 2016

Ottawa, March 23, 2016 – Today, the Government of Canada announced its first budget under the leadership of Prime Minister Trudeau, including $50 million to Sustainable Development Technology Canada’s SD Tech Fund.

Said Leah Lawrence, President and CEO of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), “At SDTC we fund and support the nation’s cleantech leaders as they work to tackle the pressing environmental challenges of the day. The Government of Canada’s renewed commitment to this sector will ensure that cleantech companies in all of Canada’s key industries can continue to innovate, develop and demonstrate technologies that will protect our air, water, and land for generations to come.”

This investment will help to drive growth, improve the livelihoods of Canadians, create jobs and contribute to Canada’s innovation agenda.

In its almost fifteen years of operation, SDTC has allocated $928 million to 320 clean technology projects and has a total portfolio value of over $3.38 billion. SDTC portfolio companies have also benefited from an additional $2.45 billion of leveraged funding from the private sector.
